Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

Last Updated on August-22-2010 Add Comments

The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Zoom Lens works on both FX and DX-format D-SLR cameras. The lens features a broad zoom range, and it close-focuses down to 18″ at every focal length.

On an FX body, the AF-S 28-300 ED VR covers nearly every aspect of travel, landscape, and portrait photography – including those elusive distant subjects. On a DX-format camera, the apparent focal length gets a 1.5x bump and it turns into a long-range ace-up-the-sleeve. The VR II image stabilization allows you to handhold the your camera at up to 4 shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, assuring dramatically sharper still images and stable video capture.

For critical focusing-moments the lens has a M/A focus mode switch that allows the photographer to quickly change between manual and autofocus modes. The autofocusing is remarkably smooth and quiet – thanks to Nikon’s silent wave motor system. The aperture diaphragm boasts no fewer than 9 blades that produce a rounded opening – a feature that will be greatly appreciated by bokeh-lovers everywhere!

The lens elements have been treated with Nikon’s Super Integrated Coating – an optical lens coating process that maximizes light transmission while enhancing clarity and contrast. All of these world-class features add up to the AF-S 28-300 ED VR being a go-to lens for just about every adventure.

Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Lens Review by the-digital-picture.com

The Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Lens holds a very wide focal length range in a compact and inexpensive package. But, image quality delivered by this lens is … well … poor.

Overall, the Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Lens’ build quality is mediocre. It sports a metal lens mount like the best, but the rest of the lens is just average for a consumer grade lens.

Overall, the Canon EF 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Lens optically disappoints.

Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM

The Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Optical Stabilizer) Lens offers an “all-in-one” super-zoom lens solution, from wide-angle to long telephoto. It provides the equivalent focal range of approx. 29-320mm when used with a Canon digital SLR camera(*). This lens has now been updated with the OS (Optical Stabilizer) system, which minimizes image blur caused by camera shake, and offers the equivalent of shooting at a shutter speed 2-3 stops faster. This allows handheld telephoto zoom shooting even in poorly lit conditions.

The 18-200mm’s optical design incorporates aspherical lenses and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass, which provides the utmost correction for all types of aberrations. It also enables this extended super-zoom lens to be housed in a compact and lightweight construction.

DC lenses are exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras. The image circle (rear of lens) is sized to match the smaller dimensions used for the image sensor on digital cameras. As a result these lenses are also more compact and lightweight, and are better matched to digital SLR cameras.

The OS system uses two sensors inside the lens to detect vertical and horizontal movement of the camera. It works by moving an optical image stabilizing lens group, to effectively compensate for camera shake. It automatically detects movement of the camera and compensates for camera shake when shooting moving subject such as motor sports.

  • Two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and three hybrid aspherical lenses provide high quality images throughout the entire zoom range.
  • Super Multi Layer (SML) coating reduces ghost and flare.
  • The lens design incorporates an inner focusing system, which prevents the front of the lens from rotating, thereby making it particularly suitable for use with circular polarizing filters and petal shaped lens hoods.
  • A magnification scale is displayed on the lens barrel for each focal length, ensuring ease of use.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens Review by the-digital-picture.com

To cut the chase, I must say that I am very impressed by the lack of strong barrel and pincushion distortion in the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM Lens. It is not perfect, but very good for this extreme wide angle focal length range. There is some barrel distortion at 10mm moving gradually to a slight pincushion at 22m. Slight enough distortion for me to be happy with the results.
