The Tokina 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 AF Pro DX lens is exclusively designed for use with Digital SLR cameras, and provides a super wide-angle zoom range, ideal for the tightest of interiors, as well as for dramatic landscape photography.

This lens features the exclusive “Focus Clutch Mechanism”, a signature of the Tokina PRO series lenses which provides a faster, smoother autofocus operation with a smooth manual focus action not normally found in autofocus lenses.

Two Aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design, to correct for spherical aberrations. It also incorporates internal focusing to prevent deterioration of the optical quality at close distances and to eliminate rotation of the front barrel during focusing.

Note: Equivalent focal length in 35mm terms when used on a digital camera is 18-36mm.

Note! DX lenses are NOT recommended for use with “full-frame” FX digital or 35mm film SLR cameras. AF not supported by D40 and D60 cameras.

  • Fast, ultra-wide angle zoom lens with a constant f/4 aperture
  • Two Aspherical lens elements minimize distortion, especially at the periphery, for superior optical performance
  • Fast internal focusing with the one-touch Focus Clutch Mechanism
  • Long focus travel for easy, accurate manual focusing
  • The rounded diaphragm opening (9 blades) makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural
  • Chrome plated brass mount plate and all-metal zoom unit

Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X Pro DX (Canon) – Review by photozone.de

The verdict about the Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X DX can’t be easy because its quality varies across the different characteristics. In terms of resolution the lens is on a very high level. The center performance is excellent throughout the whole range. The borders are (naturally) quite a bit worse especially at f/4 but very decent from f/5.6 onward. Distortions are comparatively low for an ultra-wide lens and vignetting may only be an issue at 12mm @ f/4.

I have to say that this looks and feels to be a very well built lens. It’s fairly hefty with a lot less plastic than any of my other autofocus lenses. The lens is a constant f/4 throughout its zoom range and uses 77mm filters. It doesn’t seem to need thin mount filters, even standard polarizers cause no vignetting. It comes with a well designed, sturdy bayonet mount lens hood that fits on rather stiff and should provide good collision protection.

The Tokina AT-X 12-24mm lens is a fine performer, especially at focal lengths longer than 12mm. At 12mm, performance is good, but plan on shooting at f/8 or higher for maximum sharpness in the edges of the frame. For landscape work, this is practically a non-issue. The constant aperture design and nine-bladed diaphragm are nice touches on this lens.
